Virginia Legends Walk

Judging

Virginia Legends Walk is a celebration of Virginians who have helped shape the history of our nation and the world. It was determined from the earliest planning stages that a panel of judges throughout the Commonwealth would equally decide who is inducted.

Ballots and short biographies of each candidate for Virginia Legends Walk are mailed annually to 611 judges statewide for a secret-ballot vote. Judges are selected by their professional affiliations, including:

  • The head of every historical society in Virginia

  • The head of every museum in Virginia

  • The president of every college and university in Virginia

  • The news director of every network affiliate television station in Virginia

  • The managing editor of every daily newspaper in Virginia

  • The head of every public library in Virginia

  • The head of every college and university library in Virginia

  • Every historical columnist for a daily newspaper in Virginia

KPMG independently receives the ballots directly from judges and provides the overall tally to determine the inductees.
